Graphic Design

As a graphic designer, I have a diverse range of skills and a strong understanding of production techniques. My work includes typography, publication design, textiles, and branding, and I always consider the culture and potential interactions of my target audience. In addition to my graphic design skills, I am also proficient in illustration, Photoshop, and photography, which allows me to produce my own content and effectively communicate with art teams. My attention to detail and understanding of the power of language and messaging are demonstrated in my use of typography, and my publication designs showcase my ability to create cohesive and visually appealing layouts that enhance the content of the publication. I also have experience creating consistent and effective visual identities for companies and products through branding.

Metro Pulse

Publication Design

Metro Pulse and Knoxville Magazine were two publications under a single publisher in Knoxville, TN. For these publications, I handled various tasks, from managing a staff of designers and artists to weekly cover designs. At the Metro Pulse alt-weekly, I designed the articles and covers and performed copy editing. For Knoxville Magazine, I handled production management, article design, and occasional cover design.

Design With Type

Publication Design

“Design with Type” is a publication that delves into the art and science of typography. Each spread in the book focused on different concepts of typography, exploring the ways in which type can be manipulated to create impactful designs. By incorporating interactive elements directing and guide the reader, I aimed to engage the audience and encourage them to dive deeper into the content. The sample pages below offer a glimpse into the range of concepts explored in the publication and the creative ways in which type was used to bring them to life.

KFO Package Design

Package Design

This project involved creating a package for a custom Kidrobot Dunny Art Toy that not only reflected the personality of the character but also added to the experience of opening and revealing the toy inside. The overall design is related to the impact of environmental damage done by some major corporations of the time. The package is designed to resemble a box of matches. As one opens it, one is greeted with what appears to be a box of matches. There is one single match affixed to a panel made of matches. The single match being there guides one to select it, and as they remove it, the whole panel comes with it. This unique design adds to the overall experience of opening the package and discovering the toy inside. Additional images of the custom toy can be found below in my custom toy section.

Nori Toy

Branding & Textiles

Nori was an ongoing branding evolution, from a small toy store to a screen printing company, and finally to a video game. This branding exercise involved everything from the character and story development to the branding on the websites, and even the arcade cabinet the demo was housed in.

Cow’a’gator

Cow-a-Gator is a brand of kids’ clothing that draws inspiration from a child’s imagination, where animals can be combined to create new creatures. The brand’s focus is on its mascot, Cow-a-Gator, as well as other mixed-up animals. The logo is designed to be playful and incorporates elements of both a cow and a gator into the typography. The overall concept is cute and simple, designed to appeal to children and their sense of fun and creativity.

UTK School of Art

This is a poster for the University of Tennessee’s School of Art. My goal for this piece was to call back to the principles of design taught at this university and the relationship the students have with the ideas of art. Art is more than just a passion. Art and design are also built upon studies of science, culture, and psychology. The idea here is to represent the union of what this school encourages, which is the marriage of heart and mind.

Video Production & Motion Graphics

For SIUE, I edited videos and produced motion graphics. During ’23-’24, I acted as interim Videographer. During the establishment of the digital style guide, I also developed assets and styles to be used through all of the university’s digital media. In addition to this, I managed two personal video channels and social media accounts. You can view these clips and more on my motion graphics & video page.

Digital Photography

My photography explores the intersection of various subjects, including toys, people, abstract themes, and metaphysical concepts. These photographs may capture the whimsy and nostalgia of childhood toys, the beauty and complexity of the human form, the surreal and otherworldly nature of abstract subjects, and the intangible and mystical aspects of the metaphysical. Each image invites the viewer to consider the connections and meanings behind the subjects.

Printmaking and Textiles

My printmaking creations, which include screenprinting, lithography, woodblock, and intaglio, explore a variety of subjects including characters, abstraction, storytelling, and textiles. I have experimented with pushing the boundaries of these techniques to create unique and interesting prints. Overall, my printmaking series is a diverse body of work that showcases my versatility and creativity in this medium.

Custom Toys & Characters

A collection of art toys that covers a range of social, political, and spiritual issues is a thought-provoking and meaningful body of work. These art toys may address a wide variety of subjects such as social justice, political corruption, and spiritual beliefs. Through the use of these toys as a medium, I can bring attention to important and often controversial issues in a way that is both subtle and powerful. The collection as a whole invites the viewer to consider the deeper meanings and messages behind the art toys and to reflect on the issues they represent. Below is a collection of toys that range from sculpted parts to simple repaints. In addition to the objects I have made I have included digital concepts of other characters I propose to make on various toy platforms.

Sculpture

My sculptural works include both vessels and jewelry, and I have used both primitive pottery techniques and more modern methods in my creations. My pieces made with traditional pottery techniques demonstrate my skill and attention to detail, and the use of these techniques adds an element of history and authenticity to the work. My glass jewelry, on the other hand, is made using more modern methods and abstractions of ideas related to the emotional experience of parenting. Overall, my sculptural works showcase my versatility and creativity in this tactile medium.
